olympics, work and money
15th August 2004, 9:44 am

the olympics has started, it's absolutely fantastic. i watched a lot of the opening ceremony, feeling strangely addicted to all the different coloured flags that kept going past, and then dave rang, shattering the magic. it was good to talk to him though (it always is), and i watched them lighting the torch upstairs with the telly on mute, updating dave at regular intervals with what they were doing.

watching the gymnastics is always kick ass, but the syncronised diving is also good. we won a silver medal too, woo go us! my dad also explained to me last night that newton's theory of two different masses falling at the same speed was only true in a vaccuum, which put my mind at rest because i could see that the theory didn't apply to everyday life, but assumed that more intelligent people knew better than i did.

i've been working at the warehouse for a month now - they've moved me to reception on my own (doesn't anyone like me?), which is better in a way because it has a carpet and a window, and i get to arse around on the net when i'm bored, but it's also kind've lonely, so i took my radio in. i can only get radio one though (i think the signal's screwed in the warehouse), so have to put up with the same boring songs every day... contenders for The Most Boring Song are nellie - flap your wings (what???), D12 - howcome, 3 of a kind - babycakes (truly awful) and goldie lookin' chain - guns don't kill people, rappers do. i think babycakes wins it, just.

i'm currently only 320 overdrawn, woohoo! unfortunately my rent comes out in a couple of weeks time, so i won't be getting to the magic figure of 0 for a little while yet. apparently hannah went to see our house on tuesday; i must ask her about it.

my dad went for a job interview on wednesday, and then for a personal interview (all about motivation and other bollocks) on friday. he'll find out if he's got the job on either monday night or tuesday. i'm hoping so much that he's got it, i dunno how he still manages to motivate himself to keep applying for jobs. he had to go to a 'medical' last week because he's still claiming incapacity benefit, so that, in the words of the council, "we can better assess the way in which you're entitled to the support we can offer". of course he failed it, it was bloody geared towards him failing it... like some little doctor asking him how hard he found sleeping was going to show how depressed my dad was. so yeah, he now can't clain incapacity benefit - wow, a whole 54 a week council, don't break the bank - and now has to go on the dole instead. so here's hoping he's got the job.

ciaran's coming home for a couple of days either tuesday night or wednesday. haven't seen him since at least before easter, so that'll be good. lou isn't coming with him (ciaran's girlfriend), she's visiting some friends, i think.

right, think i might go watch some more olympics. god, i just know i'm gonna be watching them online on my pc at work instead of working. for the record, my computer has no cd drive, indeed no sound system at all. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?? WHO WOULD BUILD A COMPUTER THAT CAN'T PLAY SOUNDS???

yes, the olympics doth call.
