The New Year Quiz

I am currently in Dumfries, just back from a party and really quite drunk. Need to sober up. I know, I'll do a quiz...

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Sing in front of a lot of people, and not mess up.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't even know what time it is, let alone what resolutions I made up last year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Don't think so.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Lindz's mum, Linda. One of the saddest days of the year.

5. What countries did you visit?
France, Scotland.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Energy.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
13th December - 2 year anniversary. Decidedly scary/amazing.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
The ongoing relationship with the boy, singing in front of an audience, getting a promotion at work.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Allowing family stuff to affect me so much.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Only the ME, which is slowly lessening.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new computer.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
James's, always.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Amanda's and my dad's, always.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Paris, guitar lessons.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Leona Lewis - Better In Time, for embarrassing, lab-based dancing memories.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Happier.

ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. Not sure where it's gone from though.

iii. richer or poorer? Richer, Woohoo!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Saved money. Not been so clumsy with my Ipod, re: the bath incident.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinated. Blamed myself for my dad's problems.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my dad and the hag.

21. How will you be spending New Year? In Dumfries with the boy and the boy's family.


22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Was already in.

23. How many one-night stands?
None. Again, woohoo!

24. What was your favourite TV programme?
The Wire. Obsessionally.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.

26. What was the best book you read?
Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake; Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Nic Jones, Camera Obscura.

28. What did you want and get?
A new computer. An Ipod. A pay-rise.

29. What did you want and not get?
Family peace.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Not sure. Maybe the new Batman film?

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 23 and had Indie's chef boyfriend come to my house and cook me and my friends an amazing 3-course meal. Very fantastic night.

32. What is one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Amanda going away.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Unchanged.

34. What kept you sane?
The boy and my guitar.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Cheryl Cole. DEFINITELY WOULD NOT SAY NO.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The US presidential election.

37. Who did you miss?
The usual suspects; my sister.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Julia.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Long-distance does not break a relationship.
